Port and SCAQMD Roll Out World’s Most Powerful Heavy Duty Electric Truck

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today joined officials from the Port of Los Angeles and South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for the introduction of the world’s most powerful electric truck.  Soon, the local manufacturer of this emissions-free truck will open an assembly plant in the Harbor City area of Los Angeles, with 47 “green collar” employees and the potential to bring more jobs and millions in business and tax revenue to the City of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Harbor Commission Approves Clean Truck Program Concession Agreement

The Los Angeles Harbor Commission approved the Clean Truck Program (CTP) Drayage Services Concession Agreement, which paves the way for the Port of Los Angeles to begin the transition to a Licensed Motor Carrier-based truck concession program beginning October 1, 2008.

Port Offers Free Boat Tours to the Public May 17-18

The Port of Los Angeles is offering free boat tours to the public on Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18, in celebration of World Trade Week 2008. The hour-long tours of the nation’s number one containerport will depart both days between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Ports O’ Call Village, 1100 Nagoya Way in San Pedro, and Banning’s Landing Community Center, 100 E. Water Street in Wilmington. More than 10,000 visitors traditionally take part in these yearly free boat tours.

Port and Corps Prepare Re-circulated Draft EIR for China Shipping Project

The Port of Los Angeles and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have prepared a joint re-circulated Draft Environmental Impact Statement/ Environmental Impact Report (DEIS/DEIR) for the Berths 97-109 [China Shipping] Container Terminal Project. A public meeting to receive comments on the re-circulated Draft EIS/EIR will be held on Thursday June 5. The Re-circulated Draft DEIS/DEIR illustrates how the Port proposes to substantially reduce air emissions at the terminal as part of a proposed expansion that could create more than 900 construction jobs during the project, and 4,000 new jobs upon full build-out.
