Marina Engine Exchange Program Offers Grants to Port of Los Angeles Boat Owners for New Motors
In an ongoing effort to improve the air and water quality of San Pedro Bay, the Port of Los Angeles has made additional funding available for its Marina Engine Exchange Program, incentivizing boat owners to replace their older, high-polluting outboard motors with California Air Resources Board (CARB)-certified, “three star”/ultra-low emission-rated engines (up to 10 horsepower).

New Air Monitoring Data Shows Lowest Levels of Diesel Exhaust Around Port of Los Angeles Since Collection of Data Began
New data from four air quality monitoring stations in and around the Port of Los Angeles show concentrations of elemental carbon in the Port area air fell in 2012 to the lowest levels since the Port began collecting data in 2005. Elemental carbon is used as an indicator of diesel particulate matter, or DPM, which is the soot produced by the combustion of diesel fuel.
